The Art of Handmade Glass Hearts: A Labor of Love

There’s something classic about the shape of a heart—instantly recognizable and universally understood. When I make glass hearts, I focus on the craftsmanship and design, ensuring each piece is unique and visually striking. Unlike my everyday bead designs, I don’t make hearts often. They are reserved for special moments, primarily around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, when love and appreciation take center stage.

Inspiration Behind My Glass Hearts

Each heart I create is inspired by the emotions they represent—love, warmth, and gratitude. I bring these feelings to life with carefully chosen colours, soft swirling patterns, and occasional accents of shimmering silver or gold for an extra touch of elegance. Some designs include tiny bubbles, adding a lightness to the piece, while others feature layered hues, creating depth much like the complexities of relationships.

My inspiration comes from nature, art, and the personal stories people share about the loved ones they want to surprise. Colour plays a huge role in setting the tone—deep reds and rich purples evoke passion, soft pinks and pastels bring a sense of tenderness, and vibrant blues and greens convey a sense of calm and lasting connection.

How These Hearts Are Made

Crafting a glass heart starts with molten glass and a few essential tools. I begin by building up the glass in a cone shape, then use gravity, along with a knife or brass press, to form the classic heart silhouette.

Once the shape takes form, I carefully refine the curves to ensure smooth symmetry and add decorative touches that make each piece truly one of a kind.

Depending on the final look I want to achieve, I may etch the surface for a soft, frosted finish or leave it glossy to enhance its brilliance, allowing it to catch and reflect light beautifully.

To give you a behind-the-scenes look, I’ve put together a short video showing the process in action—watch as glowing molten glass transforms into a delicate, shimmering heart. click here to watch video

A Limited-Time Creation

I only create glass hearts during select times of the year, making them truly special pieces. Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are when these designs come to life, making them a meaningful way to celebrate love and appreciation. These hearts aren’t part of my regular collection, so when they’re available, they don’t last long.

If you’re looking for a unique, handcrafted piece that speaks to you or the perfect gift for someone special, now is the time to explore the collection before they’re gone!
